The BT136 Triac is a bidirectional electronic switch capable of conducting current in both directions once triggered by either a positive or negative gate voltage. This bidirectional behaviour makes triacs the go-to choice for controlling AC loads, such as dimming lights or adjusting the speed of AC motors, directly from a digital control signal.
With a maximum terminal current rating of 4A and a maximum terminal voltage of 600V, the BT136 can safely switch a wide range of AC loads. It requires just 1.4V of gate voltage and 10mA of gate trigger current to switch on, low enough to be driven directly from Arduino or Raspberry Pi boards operating at 5V or 3.3V logic.
