LM7905, 5V Negative Voltage Regulator

The LM7905 is one of the most commonly used negative voltage regulator ICs in electronic circuits, providing a stable, regulated -5V output for systems that require both positive and negative supply rails. Housed in a TO-220 power package with three terminals, it can handle output currents of up to 1.5A.

Because it dissipates excess input voltage as heat, a heat sink is recommended to keep the regulator operating safely, particularly at higher current draws. The LM7905 includes internal current limiting, safe-area protection and thermal shutdown, guarding against virtually all overload conditions, and its low ground-pin current allows the output voltage to be boosted above its preset value using a simple resistor divider.
