Arduino L293D Motor Driver Shield, drives 2 stepper or DC motors with bidirectional control.
The Arduino L293D Motor Driver Shield stacks directly onto an Arduino Uno, giving your robotics or automation project the ability to drive stepper motors, DC motors and servos without designing a custom driver PCB. Built around two L293D dual H-bridge ICs and a 74HC595 shift register, the shield expands just 3 Arduino pins into 8 control lines for the motor drivers.
The shield can drive up to 4 bidirectional DC motors with individual 8-bit speed control (about 0.5% resolution), or up to 2 stepper motors in unipolar or bipolar configurations using single-coil, double-coil or interleaved stepping. It also includes 2 dedicated connections for 5V servos, wired to the Arduino’s high-resolution timer pins for smooth, precise servo control.
- Motor support – Up to 2 stepper motors or DC motors, plus 2 servos
- Control – Full bidirectional control with 8-bit speed resolution
- Motor voltage rating – 4.5V to 25V
- Continuous output current – 1.2A per H-bridge (0.6A per bridge, 1.2A peak)
- Driver ICs – Two L293D dual H-bridge drivers
- Pin expansion – 74HC595 shift register expands 3 Arduino pins to 8
- Protection – Thermal shutdown and internal kickback protection diodes
- Servo pins – Connected to Arduino pin 9 and pin 10
Simply stack the shield onto your Arduino Uno, install the appropriate motor or stepper library, and connect your motors and power supply to get moving. The Arduino L293D Motor Driver Shield significantly simplifies robotic and motorised project builds compared to designing a driver circuit from scratch.
